It has been long believed by many doctors have been asking their patients who suffer from diverticulitis to avoid seeds and nuts and foods with small seeds such as foods like tomatoes, cucumbers and strawberries. Many believed that these tiny particles in the food would get trapped in the diverticula sacs and this would cause inflammation and infection which would then lead to diverticulitis. There is no scientific evidence to prove this and so it is no longer believe that seeds and nuts are a cause or contributing factor to diverticulitis flare ups. Instead of that, we have been learning that consuming a high fibre diet can reduce the risk of getting diverticular disease. We all know of the amazing benefits that fiber has to offer us. The majority of health experts all agree that a lack of fibre in a person’s everyday diet is one of the leading causes of constipation which may lead to diverticulitis attacks. In the western part of the world, we are all surrounded by a very fast moving society. Many of us don’t have time due to our hectic schedules to plan meals and end up eating foods that are processed and fast food. While going to the farmer’s market is enjoyable, it is not always convenient to go, then take the time to prepare meals. We are eating more processed, refined junk food than ever! Although these types of food are convenient, cheaper and usually tasty, they are not healthy and can be detrimental to those suffering from diverticulosis or on the verge of developing the disorder.
